Evening School level scale (adults)

To attend the Evening School, please ensure that your membership is valid for the duration of your course. Once your membership is in place, courses cost £145 per term, or £390 for all three terms if payment is made in full at the beginning of the school year. The school year starts in September and a term lasts 12 weeks.

At every level, oral and written homework will be given. Learning a foreign language requires a significant amount of effort and self-study. It is important that you prepare dialogues and vocabulary for each lesson as part of your homework and continued development.

Dansk 1 – beginner level
Over the course of the three semesters, you will learn:
- To greet and introduce yourself;
- To understand basic dialogue and to get on with everyday life in Denmark;
- To make plans for the future (what, where and when?);
- To conjugate verbs in the present, past and present perfect tense;
- To say how you feel. 

Dansk 2 – elementary level
Building on Dansk 1, over the course of the three semesters you will learn:
- To read and write short paragraphs on everyday topics using basic grammar;
- To understand detailed directions, instructions, and messages regarding daily, personal, and work-related topics;
- To count.

Dansk 3 – intermediate level
Dansk 3 builds on the outcomes of Dansk 1 and 2. If students haven’t attended Dansk 1 and 2, for example if they are completely new to the Evening School, they will be expected to have achieved a similar level to those who have completed Dansk 1 & 2. This means that they can understand and answer simple questions in both oral and written Danish. The purpose of the course is to develop the students' abilities to use the language effectively with a view to practical communication in Denmark and with Danes in general.  At the same time, insights into Danish culture and Danish society will be offered. It is hoped that the students will achieve a stage in language proficiency where they will be able to communicate effectively and eloquently using a broad and varied vocabulary.

Dansk 4 – proficient level
This level is for students who have completed the first 3 levels of the Evening School or who in some other way have achieved a level of Danish that makes it possible to focus on the further training of the ability to converse, read and understand both the written and the spoken language. In addition to a textbook, the course includes student presentations, various listening exercises, Danish TV news posts and/or articles as well as discussions about Danish culture and way of life.
