Church Services: We hold a church service every Sunday throughout the year, except during August and over the New Year period.
Our services are conducted in Danish and include sermons, prayers and traditional Danish hymns. Some services are also available to follow via Zoom.
After the service, we often continue the day with lunch and coffee, available to buy in the Church Hall. The church shop is also open. On some Sundays, we organise additional activities after lunch, such as lectures and concerts.
Everyone is welcome!
Baptism: Baptisms traditionally take place during the Sunday morning service (High Mass) at 11 am, in the presence of the congregation.
Although the service is conducted in Danish, the baptism itself can be held in English if preferred.
If you would like a private baptism, this can be arranged on a Saturday. We will organise a special baptism service together with you, tailored to your wishes.
Confirmation: Its possible to have a traditional Danish confirmation in the Danish Church in London.
However, the teaching programme is organised differently, as our young people come from across the London area.
The classes take place over ten Sundays. Each Sunday begins with a church service at 11 am, followed by lunch and lessons until approximately 3 pm.
Teaching is primarily in Danish, but English is used where necessary.
We usually have around ten young people aged 13–17 in each confirmation group. Confirmations normally take place in April.
Classes begin in early September. If you are interested in joining, please contact us in July for information about dates and fees.
Weddings and Blessings
St. Katharine’s is a beautiful church, and we welcome anyone who wishes to get married here.
We follow the Danish wedding ceremony and comply with English law. Wedding ceremonies can be conducted in both Danish and English.
Please note that fees and legal requirements depend on your connection to the church, your nationality and the wishes of the couple.
Funerals and Memorial Services: Although there is no cemetery at St Katharine's, we hold funeral services and memorial services in the church. These can be conducted traditionally or orgainsed to suit the family.
Following the service, the deceased is taken to a crematorium or burial ground. Our Danish priests are also happy to travel to other locations where possible.
The main language of the Danish Church is Danish, but we want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable during the service. We are therefore happy to adapt the language to suit the family's wishes and needs.
If some family members or guests speak English, parts of the service can be conducted in English, and English hymns can be included to ensure that everyone feels involved.
Pastoral Care is an important part of a priest's work. It is not only about grief or difficult times but can be the priest's care and support for individuals within the congregation in many forms. Nothing is too big or too small to talk about. All conversations are confidential, and the priest is bound by a duty of confidentiality.
Conversations usually take place in the priest's office, at your home or in hospital. The priest is there to listen and accompany you through whatever you may be facing.

Why Do I Have to Pay?
Please note that the Danish Church in London is an independent, self-supporting church.
We do not receive direct financial support as 'Folkekirken' or the Danish state. However, we do receive a contribution towards our priests' salaries from DKIU.
This means that most of our activities and services are funded through donations, contributions and payments from our congregation and visitors.
Your support helps us keep the church and our community alive.
How do I belong to the Church?
Do you have Danish roots or ancestors?
Did your parents attend church?
Are you from Denmark?
Or do you simply have a connection to Denmark?Whatever your connection, you are very welcome.
The church is a meeting place for people with links to Denmark, and our doors are open to anyone who would like to become part of our community.
Please note that membership is required for some of the church's services.
Can I hire the church for my event?
Yes! We hire out our garden, Church Hall and church rooms for private events and celebrations, with or without catering.
Prices and options depend on your requirements and the type of event you are planning.
Please contact us to discuss your wishes and find out more.
