The Danish Church in London

St Katharine’s is a church for all Danes living in London, whether for a short stay or a longer period.

We are the Danish Lutheran Church Abroad – an Evangelical Lutheran church where we hold services, baptise, confirm, marry and conduct funerals, just as you would find in a local parish church in Denmark.

The church is situated in the north-eastern corner of Regent’s Park, close to Camden Town.

Next to St Katharine’s, you will find the church hall, which is open during church events and for Sunday lunch after the service. Here you are welcome to come in and read Danish newspapers and magazines, or buy Danish groceries or design in the shop.

 The Church’s Aims and Objectives:

The Church’s full name is The Danish Church in London, The Danish Seamen’s Church in London.

The Church’s principal purpose is to proclaim the Christian Gospel in accordance with the Danish Evangelical Lutheran tradition. This includes:

  • Holding regular church services.
  •  Providing religious services and ceremonies for Danes in the London area, together with the accompanying pastoral conversations.
  • Offering pastoral care and informal conversations.
  • Providing religious education, for example for young people preparing for confirmation.
  • Promoting wider understanding of the Church and the Christian faith through activities such as study groups, lectures and debates, encouraging personal reflection and the formation of individual views.

In addition, the Church has the following cultural, community and social aims:

  • To provide a meeting place for local Danes and their families, as well as for groups of Danes who share a common interest.
  • To promote awareness of Danish culture, including by organising concerts, lectures and debates, and screening Danish films.
  • To maintain Danish traditions and celebrate Danish festivals and special occasions.
  • To provide Danish language classes for children and adults.
  • To organise activities and outreach for young Danes and students in the area, preferably in collaboration with the the Danish Christian youth association in London (Dansk KFUK).
